Lazio & Bologna Vying to Bring German Wingback Back to Serie A

Lazio and Bologna are reportedly competing for the services of Union Berlin left-back Robin Gosens. The German has massive Serie A experience under the belt having represented Atalanta and Inter in previous seasons.

The 29-year-old spent his formative years in the Netherlands before joining La Dea in 2017. He swiftly cemented himself as a key player in Gian Piero Gasperini’s tactical system, proving to be a menacing force on the left flank.

The German’s exploits in Bergamo earned him a move to Inter in January 2022. But between injury problems and stern competition for a starting berth, Gosens didn’t find much success at Simone Inzaghi’s court. Therefore, he opted to join Union Berlin last summer, finally making his debut in the Bundesliga.

While the player proved to be a good addition to the club, the German capital side has been enduring a difficult campaign. Therefore, Gosens could relish the opportunity to ply his trade elsewhere. He even admitted his willingness to return to Serie A in a recent interview.

So according to Italian journalist Gianluigi Longari, Bologna and Lazio are showing strong interest in the Germany international. The Rossoblu would like to bolster their ranks with the experienced wingback if they manage to secure Champions League qualification. They currently sit fourth in the Serie A table.

As for Lazio, they’re unlikely to qualify for Europe’s elite club competition, but they are keeping tabs on the player all the same. Gosens would fit in well in Igor Tudor’s tactical setup which heavily relies on high-flying wingbacks.
