What Happens if Milinkovic-Savic Stays With Lazio

The departure of star midfielder Sergej Milinkovic-Savic this summer seemed all but certain, but a lack of convincing offers could change things for Lazio.

The 28-year-old Serbian midfielder has made it clear that he’s not interested in signing a new contract with the Biancocelesti, wanting to finally make the jump to a top club in the upcoming transfer window.

His agent Mateja Kezman has been working on collecting offers for Milinkovic-Savic and Lazio are expecting to earn around €35-40 million for the 28-year-old, but things have not proved so simple.

As highlighted by Radiosei (via LazioNews24), no convincing offers have arrived for Milinkovic-Savic yet and Lazio aren’t willing to give any discounts, putting a departure in the summer in doubt.

Due to the fact that the 28-year-old’s contract expires with the club in June 2024, a new contract would have to be agreed to avoid losing the star midfielder on a free transfer next year.

Lazio have already offered Milinkovic-Savic a contract worth €4.5 million net per season and could offer up to €5 million total, but the midfielder is asking for a €6 million salary. The player’s position could change, however, depending on what happens in the coming months.
