Immobile Set to Return to Italian National Team

Roberto Mancini is expected to call up Lazio captain Ciro Immobile for Italy’s upcoming Nations League commitments.

The 33-year-old Biancocelesti striker has been a much-criticised figure in the Azzurri squad in recent years, being blamed for the team’s struggles finding the back of the net, leading to fans to complain about his inability to translate his club form to country.

Immobile has not made an appearance for Italy in over a year, last appearing in their infamous World Cup play-off loss to North Macedonia in March 2022.

As reported by La Gazzetta dello Sport (via LazioNews24), Mancini will call up Immobile for Italy’s upcoming Nations League semi-final against Spain, scheduled for 15th June. Should the Azzurri win this match, they’d qualify for the final on 18th June.

The Italy coach will also call up a number of other strikers, including Napoli’s Giacomo Raspadori and Tigre’s Mateo Retegui. Empoli forward Nicolo Cambiaghi, who has netted six goals in Serie A this season, could also be included in the squad.
